COVID19 has highlighted the fragility of the medical device sector in Europe.

Low-cost products such as masks or molded plastic components are produced almost exclusively in China and their lack due to the blocking of exports, has caused infections, production stops and, unfortunately, many victims.

In 2020 the European Union has planned a supply chain platform project to be called when needed and provide medical supplies in few days.

Many of these devices, such as equipment that uses printed circuit boards, need manufacturers and suppliers who can be part of this supply chain, to respond if necessary.

RO4450T, a prepreg family whose thickness range goes from 64 to 152 micrometers, is designed to complement RO4835T™ laminates and the existing RO4000® laminate family. These materials are an excellent choice for multilayer designs requiring sequential laminations and are compatible with standard epoxy/glass (FR-4) processes.

SpeedWave 300P, a low-Dk (3.0-3.3) ultra-low loss resin system prepreg, is offered in multiple spread and open weave glass style and resin content combinations to allow for a wide range of options for the circuit designer. It exhibits excellent fill and flow capability and is also compatible with modified FR-4 fabrication processes.

The developments of the last few years during the pandemic have left no company untouched and have confronted entire supply chains with major challenges. In order to still cope with this new dimension of market dynamics, manual and alignment-intensive processes have to be replaced by smart and collaborative next-generation software solutions. In particular, automatic calculation of PCB costs, software-supported identification of design violations, or intelligent simulation of manufacturing processes can be a game-changer in an increasingly fast-paced world. Let’s explore these challenges and opportunities during this presentation!

Like all important inventions of the 20th century, the printed circuit board did not fall from the heavens. Creative and innovative people, mostly engineers, who were often ahead of their time, shaped and advanced the development of the printed circuit board and made it what it is today. Namely, the basis of all electronic devices that facilitate and often enrich our everyday lives.

The main milestones of this historical development and the people involved with it, starting from the 20th century until today, will be briefly presented in the lecture “The Historical Development of Printed Circuit Board Technology”.

This lecture is intended for anyone interested in innovative inventions and their history and, of course, in particular for anyone involved in the subject of printed circuit boards in the broadest sense.

Elco presents two concrete cases based on promising technologies for the PCB: Additive Manufacturing, which allows to shape geometries and configurations otherwise unthinkable, and Metal Clad with high dielectric constant dielectrics, to compress spaces while safeguarding the need for thermal dissipation.

Gli ultimi anni hanno visto un progressivo spostamento della produzione dei circuiti stampati fuori dall’Europa.
Il trend sembra portare ad una progressiva dismissione degli impianti europei di produzione dei circuiti stampati, partendo da quelli specializzati in bassa tecnologia ed alti volumi, per arrivare, alla fine, ad impattare anche quelli ad alta tecnologia e bassi volumi.
Il trend è ormai conclamato in paesi come la Francia, sembra inarrestabile in Italia ed è in atto in altri paesi dell’Europa occidentale.
La recente crisi sembra aver dato un po’ di respiro ai produttori europei, ma non sembra aver cambiato le prospettive di lungo termine.
La UE ed il PNRR sembrano aver percepito il rischio di non avere un’industria propria nel settore dei semiconduttori ma non ancora nel campo dei circuiti stampati.
Cosa servirebbe per poter stabilizzare una catena di produzione Europea?

Molti di questi dispositivi, come le apparecchiature che utilizzano circuiti stampati, hanno bisogno di produttori e fornitori che possono far parte di questa catena di approvvigionamento, per rispondere se necessario.

I dispositivi attuali pongono ai progettisti problematiche che un tempo erano considerate marginali.

Oggi il progettista elettrico pittosto che il masterista devono avere conoscenze a 360 gradi per comprendere e prevedere l’impatto delle scelte fatte sul processo di progettazione e realizzazione del dispositivo nel rispetto dei requisiti del prodotto (meccanica,forma, dissipazione del calore, costo, materiali,componenti, ecc) e delle normative da rispettare.

Una progettazione in ottica DFX implica pratiche di progettazione che creano prodotti “facilemente” producibili e assemblabili da diversi fornitori garantendo qualita’, affidabilita’, resa, time-to-market e costi contenuti e la presentazione vuole essere un modo per far riflettere sull’argomento.

ACX Design

E’ nostra convinzione che l’attività di PCB Design, all’interno della filiera progettuale, abbia i connotati appropriati per esercitare un ruolo gestionale della filiera stessa.

Considerando le 4 macro-fasi che compongono il rilascio di una scheda elettronica (Progetto elettrico, PCB Design, Costruzione PCB, Assemblaggio PCBA) il PCB Design viene in possesso globalmente dei requisiti afferenti le altre fasi:

– Esigenze progettuali che implicano un adeguato sviluppo del progetto layout

In particolare, in questo momento di shortage della componentistica, il PCB Design ha la potenzialità di poter recepire le segnalazioni di criticità da parte di PCBA, concertare con il progetto elettrico le eventuali variazioni di package, a parità di funzione, applicandole sul layout e comunicando al sub fornitore di assemblaggio la variazione di BoM, questo senza introdurre gap temporali o, peggio, determinare la necessità di una revisione della scheda elettronica.

Il tema centrale sarà l’identificazione della scheda elettronica / prodotto finale / PCB. Si parlerà delle varie fasi in cui il PCB può essere identificato (inizio processo, su P&P, fine processo) sia manualmente che in maniera automatica. Si parlerà anche dell’identificazione del prodotto finito e delle varie soluzioni per il monitoraggio della temperatura e dell’umidità, e sempre sul prodotto finale, di RFID (cenni). Faremo il confronto con altri sistemi di identificazione (laser, direct imaging ecc) e focalizzazione sui benefit dell’etichettatura in generale.

Il laser depaneling di LPKF: l’innovazione nel processo di separazione dei pcb che garantisce elevata qualità di taglio, flessibilità ed assenza di carbonizzazione.

RO4450T, serie di prepreg la cui gamma di spessori va da 64 a 152 micrometri, permette di espandere le potenzialità della serie RO4000^© di Rogers e di realizzare Circuiti Stampati con più alto numero di strati e con laminazione sequenziale mantenendo parametri di produzione simili a FR4 ma caratteristiche elettriche notevolmente superiori.

Speedwave300P è un prepreg a bassa costante dielettrica (3.0-3.3) e a basse perdite, offerto con trama di vetro tradizionale o “spread” per dare la massima flessibilità di progetto grazie alle sue notevoli capacità di flusso e riempimento e alla sua ampia gamma di spessori disponibili.
