ALUN MORGAN OF EIPC OPENS FOCUS ON PCB WITH A REVIEW OF HOW TO RESHAPE AND INNOVATE THE EUROPEAN ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY

ON MAY 21 AND 22, THE EUROPEAN ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY GATHERS IN VICENZA TO EXPLORE INNOVATIONS, TRENDS, AND FUTURE STRATEGIES IN THE DESIGN AND PRODUCTION OF PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS.

MAY 21, 2025 – The new edition of “Focus on PCB – From design to assembly,” the European trade show entirely dedicated to the world of printed circuit boards, opened today in Vicenza. This is a benchmark event for the entire PCB supply chain, and the opening ceremony featured a highly anticipated speech by Alun Morgan, President of EIPC – the European Institute for the PCB Community, who offered a detailed analysis of the state and prospects of the European electronics industry.

“The European electronics industry is going through a period of great change, but also of extraordinary opportunities,” said Morgan. “The growing demand for advanced technologies – from electric vehicles to artificial intelligence, from medical to 5G – offers concrete opportunities for a structural revival of the PCB sector in Europe”.

In his speech, Morgan explained how, despite strong global competition, European PCB production is set to grow in the coming years, rising from $1.7 billion in 2023 to over $2 billion in 2028, according to Prismark estimates. This increase will be driven mainly by strategic sectors such as automotive, aerospace, defense, and medical/healthcare, where the quality and reliability of European production are recognized worldwide.

Morgan also highlighted how political initiatives such as the European Chips Act are paving the way for greater industrial integration. “Now is the right time to invest in strengthening the entire electronics supply chain. Chips are not enough: we need PCBs and interconnection systems made in Europe to ensure strategic autonomy and competitiveness”, he stressed.

Among the topics discussed was the value of sustainability and innovation: European manufacturers stand out for their focus on the environment, material quality, and energy efficiency. This is an important lever for differentiation in the global market.

Morgan’s final message was clear: “Our industry has talent, know-how, and technological capabilities. With a shared vision, we can make Europe a center of excellence in the electronic manufacturing of the future”.

The show will continue until May 22 with B2B meetings, workshops, and round tables, involving key players in the sector. It is a unique opportunity to address the challenges of technological transition and build the future of electronic manufacturing in Europe.
