Today the competitiveness of a company is not measured only on the quality of the product but also on the speed and accuracy of the service. It is therefore important to focus on logistical efficiency
Logistics is a large and complex matter. In fact, it includes a whole series of activities such as customer service, demand forecasting, communication management, inventory management, material handling, order processing, factory location, procurement, packaging, returns management, transport, warehousing and storage. And if we consider that the choices made in a certain area of logistics have an impact on all the other areas, we understand why it has become necessary to talk about “integrated logistics”, that is the integration of the different logistics areas in order to minimize the total cost of activities and ensure a good level of service

The upcoming breakthrough in electronics is not another ‘disruptive’ technology but a working environment capable of integrating and connecting existing technologies with those who use them. A collaborative environment in which designers and engineers are able to work in absolute freedom, anywhere and anytime on the same project and on several projects simultaneously, automatically updating their colleagues with regard to ongoing changes and necessary revisions.
An environment capable of finally overcoming internal company silos, facilitating the exchange of information among various departments – from mechanical to electronic – and ensuring that the focus remains on company objectives in respect to divisional priorities. One of the fundamental principles driving not only the sustainability of a single project but also the overall sustainability of a company.
The strategic acquisition of Mentor by Siemens was the foundation to turn this vision into a reality. Today, thanks to Siemens Digital Industries’ integrated design and manufacturing flow and our experience of 35 years in electronics, we are able to launch Cadlog 360, the first collaborative suite of technologies and services dedicated to the design and production of finished products.
With Cadlog 360 you have access to a collaborative environment in which:
Electronic and mechanical CAD dialogue with each other in real-time and within a continuous conceptual flow.
Firmware design and verification are integrated within the hardware structure in order to optimize I/O PINs.
Predictive simulations can be run right from the early stages, without ever leaving the project flow (no data import/export required).
The manufacturability of a project can be verified already at the engineering stage.
You can move to smart production ensuring optimization of processes, materials, quality, and costs.

Distretto Biomedicale
COVID19 has highlighted the fragility of the medical device sector in Europe.
Low-cost products such as masks or molded plastic components are produced almost exclusively in China and their lack due to the blocking of exports, has caused infections, production stops and, unfortunately, many victims.
In 2020 the European Union has planned a supply chain platform project to be called when needed and provide medical supplies in few days.
Many of these devices, such as equipment that uses printed circuit boards, need manufacturers and suppliers who can be part of this supply chain, to respond if necessary.

What might a future look like in practical terms, in which the manufacturability of PCBs is already optimized during the development process, the part selection is carried out in a forward-looking manner with regard to market developments, or finding suitable supply sources takes place at the push of a button? The developments of the last few years during the pandemic have left no company untouched and have confronted entire supply chains with major challenges. In order to still cope with this new dimension of market dynamics, manual and alignment-intensive processes have to be replaced by smart and collaborative next-generation software solutions. In particular, automatic calculation of PCB costs, software-supported identification of design violations, or intelligent simulation of manufacturing processes can be a game-changer in an increasingly fast-paced world. Let’s explore these challenges and opportunities during this presentation!

Like all important inventions of the 20th century, the printed circuit board did not fall from the heavens. Creative and innovative people, mostly engineers, who were often ahead of their time, shaped and advanced the development of the printed circuit board and made it what it is today. Namely, the basis of all electronic devices that facilitate and often enrich our everyday lives.
The main milestones of this historical development and the people involved with it, starting from the 20th century until today, will be briefly presented in the lecture “The Historical Development of Printed Circuit Board Technology”.
This lecture is intended for anyone interested in innovative inventions and their history and, of course, in particular for anyone involved in the subject of printed circuit boards in the broadest sense.
